- AL-ANON (and ALATEEN for younger members) A worldwide organization that offers a self-help recovery program for families and friends of alcoholics whether or not the alcoholic seeks help or even recognizes the existence of a drinking problem. This site presents the twelve steps and traditions of Al-Anon as well as directories of Al-Anon information services and on-line Al-Anon family groups. - The Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse (AMERSA) AMERSA is an association of multidisciplinary health care professionals in the field of substance abuse dedicated to improving education about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. The Association was founded in 1976 by the Career Teachers in Alcohol and Drug Abuse. The goals of the organization are 1) to expand academic preparation in substance abuse; 2) to initiate scientific research that fosters a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach to prevention, intervention, and treatment; 3) to promote and disseminate a body of knowledge and literature about substance abuse which emphasizes technology transfer, medical education, and research through conferences and publications in Substance Abuse and other journals; 4) to support faculty development programs; and 5) to provide mentorship for health professionals interested in becoming teachers, clinicians, and researchers in the field.

- Boston University Medical Center Community Outreach Health Information System An award-winning website dedicated to providing health promotion and disease prevention information. - Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse A non-profit organization helps to minimize the harm associated with the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The Centre was created in 1988 under Canada's Drug Strategy. Its mission is to promote informed debate on substance abuse issues, encourage public participation in reducing the harm associated with drug abuse, disseminate information on the nature, extent and consequences of substance abuse, and assist organizations involved in substance abuse treatment, prevention and educational programming. - Elk's Drug Awareness Program Online resource center featuring information about the Elk's Drug Awareness Program. This program works to prevent drug use by youth through education. The program sponsors seminars, workshops, and drug-free functions, and prints and distributes educational literature developed by authorities on drug awareness. Since 1983, they have printed and handed out more than 103 million pieces of literature to students, teachers, and parents.
